The Chairmans Message - 2001

A new season brings more incoherent ramblings onto the Priory Ruins Website. This being the Chairman's message should really follow a more disciplined format than just "what ever word I can think of next", but then again it's not in my nature.

This year our gameplan is to focus more on our key strengths, and revisit the big picture when it comes to Priory Ruins Cricket Club. To ensure the continued viability of running our club we have been proactive rather than reactive, and opted to down-size the nature of the organisation. For those of you not in management, we've stopped playing on Saturdays and returned to being just a Sunday side.

Bowler The Movers & Shakers over the winter break to take Priory Ruins CC to the next level have been working hard to upgrade the facilities at Roeheath from limited to limited with a lick of paint and a proper electricity supply. Thanks to all those involved. We also have a new treasurer, which will enable the committee to touch base with the empty bank account at more regular occasions. To go that extra mile, we have appointed results-driven personnel to take responsibility for the buildings and ground (Shorty paints - Kitchy mows!).

To avoid spiralling into a vortex of misery, with constant recriminations, we have implemented a No Blame culture and empowered our players to contribute towards the whole club's well-being. (We share the responsibility of being tea-lady - although only Kevin Andrews seems to dress up as one).

At the end of the day, it is still about enjoying our cricket, and now we have successfully benchmarked ourselves against a Sussex Village League, it is time to stop playing Hardball, and return to the best practices of Sunday village cricket, namely a couple of sociable beverages before play, a couple during, and sufficient afterwards to ensure a good night sleep.

Now the next time you receive one of those irritating Buzzword Bingo e-mails you can re-read my 2001 Message and see how well you do. You should be able to get at least twenty.

Enjoy the rest of the web-site, and feel free to re-visit at anytime to read any match reports and follow our progress.

Best wishes for the season

Henry Nairne
Priory Ruins CC Chairman.
